Camden
The mission of SIP: Camden is to educate students on the urban poverty in the city of Camden through service, development of relationships with the community and meaningful reflection. Participants will think critically about their role in potential improvement of urban poverty for Camden and Philadelphia alike.
Philadelphia
The mission of SIP: Philadelphia is to inform students of the impact of education on the lives of local youth. Through working with urban-based afterschool and educational programs, participants will learn about factors influencing the K-12 educational process in Philadelphia. Additionally, participants will gain familiarity with the city of Philadelphia and its sub-communities.
El Paso, TX
The mission of SIP: El Paso is to work with the Border Immersion Experience in El Paso, across the border from Juarez, Mexico. This trip is your opportunity to learn about the issues that affect the lives of people living on the U.S./Mexico border. The program may include opportunities to meet members of the Cristo Rey community, personal accounts of border life, deep immersion into Mexican and Mexican-American culture, service work on a preselected project in El Paso, presentations from people involved in social justice ministries, and visits with social service agencies in the area that deal directly with border and immigration issues. * Please note that Temple students will not be allowed to cross the border into Mexico at any point on the trip.
Rosebud Lakota Reservation, SD
The mission of SIP: Lakota is to immerse students in the history and culture of the Lakota tribe through service, education, reflection and ritual celebration. Participants will learn the history of the Lakota people and experience it through the lens of social justice. The program seeks to develop students’ sense of self-awareness, their role as an agent of change and their sense of connection with the world around them.
Jamaica
The mission of SIP: Jamaica is to immerse students in the history and culture of the Jamaica through service, education, and reflection. Participants will complete a sustainable development project in the St. Thomas Parrish of Jamaica with the NGO, Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA). The program seeks to develop students’ sense of teamwork, their role as an agent of change and their sense of connection with the world around them.
